Home Visiting Scheme

Seniors Information Service is working in collaboration with Meals on Wheels (SA) to deliver the Seniors Wise SA Home Visiting Scheme.

Meals On Wheels (SA) is a not-for-profit, local community, branch based, volunteer organisation working throughout South Australia. It is made up of people from all parts of the community committed to helping our clients live independently in their own home.

What is the Seniors Wise SA Home Visiting Scheme?

  • Seniors Wise SA Home Visiting Scheme is part of the State government funded program, Seniors Wise SA
  • One of the program's objectives is to provide older people with information to assist them to live independently at home
  • A Seniors Wise SA volunteer can visit a person's home and have an informal conversation about support services that may be available to assist them
  • The Home Visiting Scheme is a free service and available to anyone aged 60 and over and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged 45 and over
  • A Seniors Wise SA volunteer may assist a person to make enquiries about a particular service during the visit.
  • Seniors Wise SA Home Visiting Scheme is a separate service to the meals delivery service

What can a person expect from a Seniors Wise SA Home Visit?

  • A volunteer will visit a senior's home to have a general chat about how the person is managing at home, with shopping, preparing meals, looking after their garden, catching up with family and friends, etc
  • Volunteers are friendly and caring people who will listen to a person talk about their situation and ask questions on how they are coping generally
  • The volunteer may be able to provide information on a range of services such as Seniors Information Service or Commonwealth Carelink SA, and with your permission may use your phone to make calls with you during the visit to help you gather this information
  • If information is not readily available, the volunteer will offer to follow up your queries and get back to you either by phone or another visit

Please note that Seniors Wise SA volunteers are not able to give advice, perform tasks or make ongoing visits.
