The Family Law system is undergoing reform. The Family Law Act has changed to try to ensure that children’s needs come first. Changes have been made to provide better recognition of the important role that grandparents, relatives and members of extended families play in children’s lives. The changes came into affect in July 2006.
Over the next three years the Australian Government is expanding existing services and setting up new services to provide information, advice, support and dispute resolution. This includes establishing 65 Family Relationship Centres across Australia.
